5 Toys - 50 Ideas
One only needs a Tug, Ball, Sock, Dummy and Rope.

Review: The book 'Games box for dogs' immediately arouse my interest. It is a book which contains 50 different games for which one needs only 5 different toys. As I own an exemplar of a dog who resists going for a walk when it's raining, I immediately was excited about the games which entertain the dog inside the house. The games are very easy to play and are going from easy to more difficult and skillful. For some of the games, the dog has to really make an effort and think independently.
The presentation of the book is also very simple. For every game it is listed where the game can be played (inside, outside or both), who can play the game (one dog or more dogs) and the degree of severity of the game (easy, medium, difficult). Furthermore, I like that it is listed what skill every game trains, what it improves and what it provides.
I have already played a few games with Rocky and even though he is rather lazy when it comes to playing games, he still seemed to enjoy it. He especially liked the games which tested his obedience.
For ball games, he rather quickly lost fun playing it. Luckily there are enough games so that a game can be found for every dog and owner.
I can recommend the book to every dog owner. It is not only fun for the dog, but also for the owner.

We have received the books 'Other end of the leash' and 'The dog' by the PIPER Publishing.

'Other end of the leash' by Patricia B. McConnell

Description of the book 'Other end of the leash' by Patricia B. McConnell: Behavioural research can be so much fun - especially if it involves you and your dog!

This is actually not a book about dog training, but rather about human training:
Intelligent, scientifically, humorous and sometimes simply amazing is how Patricia B. McConnell, professor of Zoology and a certified animal behavior therapist, descripes the typical misunderstandings between the >>monkey<< human and the >>wolf<< dog which oftentimes stand in the way of an unclouded relationship. Humans like monkeys like to hug which they love - for dogs this is an absolute insult.
Numerous Aha-effects and cheerful smiles are guaranteed while reading!

The book 'Other end of the leash' by Patricia B. McConnell (ISBN: 978-3-492-25325-3) was published on the 01.05.2009, was translated into German by Gisela Rau and has 368 pages, of which 16 pages are an image part."

Review: The book 'Other end of the leash' by Patricia B. McConnell is one of the most interesting books about the communication between a dog and its owner which I have read so far.
It is divided into 10 categories; Monkey See, Monkey Do, Translating Primate to Canine, Talking to Each Other, Planet Smell, Fun and Play, Packmates, The Truth about Dominance, Patient Dogs and Wise Humans, Personalities, and Love and Loss. Furthermore, it includes an Afterword, References and an Index.
The chapters are all very interesting and you can oftentimes recognise yourself in the described situations. Patricia B. McConnell has described the individual situations very well and explains very clearly why the communication between a dog and its human is oftentimes misunderstood. It gives the dog owner a good explanation of how to change OURSELVES in regards of behaviour in order to improve our communication with our four-legged friend. Thus, the description of the book on the backside is quite right: "It is not actually a book about Dog Training, but rather about Human Training." While reading I often had an 'Aha-Experience' with which it suddenly became crystal clear to me why the communication between me and Rocky went wrong in some situations and what I would have to change in order for Rocky to understand better what I am asking him to do.
I am suggesting this book to every dog owner. It is written interestingly, humerously and truthfully, and it gives you a reality check about the communication between a dog and its owner. Overall a really great book!

Review: The book 'The Dog' by Kerstin Ekman is with its 127 pages a rather short book, but is yet written very interestingly. It is described in full detail what the lost puppy has lived through, how he felt, what barriers crossed his path and how he overcame these in order to survive. Due to all the described details the reader can easily empathise with the story. A great, short book.

Overall, the book is a very helpful book for novices who want to firstonce read about the breed 'Chihuahua' and who want to deal with the aquisition, as well as everything that goes along (nutrition, care, accessories).
I especially like all the pictures and I think I have even recognised one or the other dog of a German breeder.
