"The Versele-Laga story

Everything started with Prudent Versele, a visionary entrepreneur, who started to produce and market cattle feeds on a small scale in 1932.
In 1937, less than five years later, he could only continue to meet demand by building a first cattle feed plant in Deinze, Belgium.
The following years were successful, the factory expanded further and even became one of the most modern and best performing ones of its age.
The passionate employees who worked for Versele-Laga soon managed to convince the Versele family to also develop mixes for pigeon racing.
They were soon followed by products for other sporting animals and pets such as birds, farm animals, horses and dogs.

Since the 70s animals increasingly became part of the family and more and more birds, rodents, dogs and cats were taken into people´s homes.

At Versele-Laga they follow all these market developments very closely with new investments. In this way, they can provide increasingly better answers to the needs and wishes of the owners of pets and performance animals.

"Versele-Laga is an international manufacturer
of quality food and care brand products
for performance animals and pets"

Quality always pays off
Since they use grains, seeds and other natural products, quality control is very important. After all, each harvest is different in terms of colour, shape, size and density.
They therefore set strict standards first and upon receipt of the ingredients they carry out extensive quality checks before taking them into our production line.
Their products also undergo different checks during the manufacturing process. They work to the highest quality standards of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) for animal feed, HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and IFS (International Food Standard). This guarantees the full traceability of the nature and origin of the raw materials used and samples of the used materials and produced feeds are kept in accordance with legal regulations.
At Versele-Laga they also believe that quality always pays off and they always make everyone in the company aware of that. Not only the product’s quality is important, they continue to strive for the best in everything they do."

Review: I really much like the Opti Coat supplement by Versele-Laga. I mix a small amount of the Opti Coat into Rocky's wet food daily and he seems to like it. I think it is really good and Rocky's coat is really shiny and soft now.
I do however think that filling the right amount of Opti Coat into the food bowl can be quite messy and the rich reddish, oily colour is difficult to get out of cloths or carpets again. So be aware when feeding this supplement. Otherwise I do really like it though.

Review: As Rocky has a mild form of a knee condition called Patella Luxation, I am always on the look out for joint supplements. Opti Joint is the first supplement that Rocky actually licked off my finger. So he must definitely like it. I mix a small amount into his wet food daily and he always eats it. I think the composition of the Opti Joint supplement is great and includes 3 of the most helpful ingreadients; Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM. While I know that Rocky's knee condition won't magically improve, I am always happy if it stays the same and does not get worse (as it is prone to getting worse over time). Opti Joint has definitely aided Rocky's knees and it seems that he enjoys running and walking even with his knee condition.
The only downside of the Opti Joint is that I really do not like its smell. But this is just a small downside compared to all the positive effects it has. I would also like if it was available in a smaller pot as I find it really big for a small dog like Rocky and will probably last for the rest of his life. I am overall more than happy with Opti Joint though and can definitely recommend it.

Review: I really like the Ear Clean wipes by Versele-Laga. I am generall a big fan of wipes, wether for myself or for Rocky. They are easy and quick to use and do their job well. I used them on Rocky a few times now and they clean the outer ear very well and smell nice but not perfumed, so it won't irritate Rocky. A top product which I really like.

Review: Rocky is prone to having teary eyes and oftentimes has darkish circles underneath his eyes. This is especially when it is windy and cold outside. The Eye Clean wipes by Versele-Laga are very handy and clean up Rocky's tear stains very well. I am really happy with them.

Plaque Free Dental Kit

Description of the Plaque Free Dental Kit: "Oropharma Plaque Free Dental Kit. A good dental hygiene is of crucial importance for the general health of a dog. If the teeth are uncared-for, bacteria have free play and the formation of dental plaque and tartar is stimulated. This is the reason why the dog's dentition can change colour and emit a bad odour. Veterinarians all agree: regular brushing of the dog's teeth with a special toothpaste is the best guarantee for a healthy dentition. There is no other treatment that is as effective.

Oropharma Plaque Free Toothpaste, for strong and healthy teeth.
  • Removes dental plaque
  • Prevents the formation of tartar
  • Tastes good for the dog
  • With calcium carbonate for a soft and thorough cleaning
  • With natural enzymes for an even better and long-lasting protection.

Versele-Laga Toothbrush, extremely suitable for dogs; with soft grip and long handle. The thin little brush at the end is ideal for the spots that are difficult to reach and for brushing between the teeth.

Directions for use: Daily brushing is recommended.
Squeeze an amount of toothpaste (about the size of a pea) on a suitable soft toothbrush, for example the Versele-Laga toothbrush. Make small circular movements on the teeth and the gums. It takes a while for the dog to get used to dental care, so you will have to show a lot of patience. The ideal solution is to introduce the method to them at a young age and in a playful manner.
1. Let your dog taste the toothpaste first, he will get used to the flavour.
2. Accustom your dog to an "object" on his teeth: rub them with a finger or a little gauze. Then repeat this process with a brush, without paste.
3. If your dog is accustomed to the steps mentioned above, you can try to open his mouth and brush the upper and the lower teeth. After that, you can do the inside.

Packing: 70g toothpaste tube and toothbrush"

Review: I try to brush Rocky's teeth on a daily basis and am always interested in different dog tooth products. I am really happy with the Versele-Laga Toothpaste as it is sugar free which is unfortunately not always the case for dog toothpastes. Even though Rocky does not particularly like getting his teeth brushed, he seems to find the toothpaste ok.
One downside about this Kit is though that the toothbrush itself is rather big for a tiny dog. I usually have dog toothbrushes that have one bigger and one smaller end (but not as small as the end of the Versele-Laga toothbrush) so I can use the small side instead. But for this toothbrush it is rather difficult to use sizewise. Nevertheless a good starter Dental Kit though.
